Civic Engagement
The United States is built on citizens’ civic involvement. While we still have far to go to ensure equality in this practice, NCJW Miami has actively worked to ensure that the voice of the people is heard through the electoral process. Registering voters at shopping malls, colleges, and at numerous other venues has been a staple in the NCJW arsenal of promoting the vote. NCJW Miami joined other faith-based organizations in getting signatures for the petition to adopt Amendment IV. This Amendment has enabled Florida’s felons (not accused of violent crimes) to regain their right to vote once their time has been served. For the 2020 election, NCJW is participating in Vote Forward. This is a letter-writing campaign reaching out to registered voters who have not exercised their right to vote in recent elections and encouraging them to vote.
